Andy Doro, I  kept  thinking about  twin brother - Andy and Nick Doro .
I wonder what he will come up with for Nick.

Well, I happened to take picture of R/GA people when I was visiting them to give Funji mock up.

Jooyoun is eating her Funji right now but I bet she will make it unique.

James is one of a kind already. Let's see what he comes up with Funji.

Funji surgery

Funji/HW 2008/04/11 23:51
So I received the first board from co-worker Brian in LA.
I used AVRISP mkII to upload the hex file.
It requires AVR Studio as a window application along with it.

The board has a sound quality issues that I need a speaker or earbuds to listen to what Funji says.

I had a hard time connecting this tool with the board and using AVR studio.
Brian kindly sent me a manual for me.

After a few errors and trials, I finally uploaded hex file and sound file.
This is the hyperterminal that shows all the commands. I upload sound file from this interface.

The Qprox is very sensitive but only senses human touch, which is great.
When I pet Funji, it says what it has to say.
After testing all the functions, the next thing I did was putting the board to Funji itself.
Putting the foil inside of Funji is the second step after connecting foil to the sensor.

Since the foil could hurt the board, I put paper between the foil and the board.

The wire connecting the sensor and the foil needs to be flexible since I need to be able to take the board out of Funji often.

Thanks to Michael, I could find flexible wires to solder down.
So the board goes inside of Funji.

Yes, now the board is inside. I have a earbud connected but the three prototypes that I will use for the prototype won't. I will upload the video of how it behaves next week.

General audience can join customization as easy as it gets.
It's so exciting to see people using Funji app.
However, web is the start, the easiest solution of mass customization.
It will go much further than that.

so Some findings from the project, Funji are;

1. Take advantage of web
There was an article in ZD net talking about web mash ups.
Web is a good starting point since it's easy enough already thanks to user interface and technological development.

2. Millions of possibilities when there is no right or wrong.
Take a look at a List of Top 10 mass customization websites.

Teas, recepies, dolls, bras. Those don't have a right answer. It's about your personal taste or it fits Only you. People can do whatever you want.

3. Have pre-made options.
Some people love DIY but some don't. The experience of making something of their own selecting options can be satisfying even though they don't make from scratch.

Question) What is the vaule after customizing it?
Will the experience of using customized product be different?
Using something just for you must create different experience.
Ultimate mass customization would make people feel special every time they use it.
I like the products that people can show off rather than use it for practical reason.
Think of the success of Nike ID and the failure of Levi's custom made jeans. ;)

Happy birthday

Funji with U 2008/03/03 18:42

It was belated Jooyoun's birthday.
I wanted to swim inside of this pie.

but I only had small piece of it since it's not my birthday.
Hyunsoo told me to eat the crumb but I didn't. 가오가 있지. 캬캬캬
The Funji with pretty clothes is for Jooyoun.
It says "happy birthday" when petted.

This is my favorite meal of weekend, which is only acceptable during weekend.

I looked up comfort food to see if carbs is what makes people comfortable.  It is comforting because those food are what we eat when we were young. In that sense, Korean calling these carbs comforting is a bullshit.

I can't help but admit that these are very comforting though.

Good for you, Funji. You don't have to worry about what you eat since you don't care about your shape.
